Introduced in 1985 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, this badge featured a silver Mylar eagle and rolled edge. However, the Mylar proved fragile and often disintegrated or lost its luster when washed. Because of this durability issue, the BSA redesigned the patch just one year later, in 1986 (Type 7), replacing the Mylar eagle with grey thread while keeping the silver Mylar border. This makes this patch very difficult to find in unworn, MINT condition like this one!
It represents the highest rank attainable in the BSA program and is a significant accomplishment. Only about four percent of Scouts have earned this rank since its inception in 1911.
